Australian Reptile Park, Somersby

Around 30 minutes away

No Central Coast holiday is complete without a visit to the Australian Reptile Park.

Home to koalas, kangaroos, Tasmanian devils, crocodiles, dingoes, wombats and countless native Australian animals, it’s one of the region’s best-loved attractions.

Pelican Time Experience, The Entrance

Just 10 minutes from the resort

One of the Central Coast’s most iconic wildlife experiences is completely free.

Every weekend and school holidays at 3:30pm, head to The Entrance Foreshore where the amazing volunteers from Marine Wildlife Rescue Central Coast present Pelican Time, an entertaining and educational wildlife talk featuring the area’s famous pelicans.

You’ll learn about these incredible birds, see them up close and hear the important work being done to rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife throughout the region.

While the experience is free, donations are warmly welcomed, with every dollar helping support local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Whale Watching with Terrigal Ocean Tours

Departing from Terrigal, around 20 minutes away

If you’re visiting during whale season (typically May to November), seeing humpback whales up close is something you’ll never forget.

Terrigal Ocean Tours offers whale watching cruises departing just 20 minutes from Blue Lagoon, giving you the chance to witness these gentle giants in their natural environment.

Keep your eyes peeled – you may also spot dolphins, seals and other marine life along the way.

Top Tip: You don’t always need to hop on a boat. During whale season it’s not uncommon to spot whales, dolphins and even the occasional seal right from Blue Lagoon Beach!

Amazement Farm & Fun Park, Wyong

Less than 30 minutes away

If your family loves animals and adventure, Amazement Farm & Fun Park is a fantastic day out.

Meet friendly farm animals in the petting zoo, enjoy pony rides, climb aboard the train ride, tackle the giant mazes and let the kids loose on the amusement rides and playgrounds. Plus, amazement is now home to the Central Coast Zoo, so expect to spot more exotic critters such as lions, monkeys and capybaras!

There’s also an on-site café, making it easy to spend a few hours (or even the whole day) there.

Yarramalong Valley Horse Farm, Yarramalong

Around half an hour inland from Blue Lagoon

For something a little different, head to the beautiful Yarramalong Valley Horse Farm and visit a genuine working Arabian horse stud.

During your tour you’ll meet magnificent horses along with plenty of adorable miniature ponies, goats, sheep, chickens, bunnies, guinea pigs and even an alpaca!

The experience also includes a guided walk around the edge of the property through native bushland and alongside the creek, where, if you’re lucky, you might even spot a wombat or platypus in the wild.

Guests can feed many of the animals, making it a wholesome, hands-on experience that’s especially popular with younger children.

Wildlife is Everywhere at Blue Lagoon!

Some of the best wildlife experiences don’t even require leaving the resort.

Take an early morning stroll and you’ll often spot cheeky bush turkeys, curious water dragons and plenty of native birdlife throughout the park, including colourful rainbow lorikeets, chuckling kookaburras and magnificent black cockatoos. Head down to the beach and keep an eye on the ocean – you might be lucky enough to see dolphins surfing the waves, whales migrating along the coastline or even a seal resting offshore during the cooler months.

We’re also incredibly lucky to have resident echidnas living in the surrounding Wyrrabalong National Park behind the resort. They occasionally wander onto our driveway, particularly after dark, so please take extra care when driving in and out of Blue Lagoon at night.

As tempting as it can be, please don’t feed our local wildlife. Human food isn’t good for our native animals, and keeping them wild helps ensure they’re healthy and safe for future generations to enjoy.

Nature really is all around you here.
